In 1961, Mike and his identical twin brother Pat were saved in the same service in a small Baptist church. Mike grew up on a Nebraska ranch in the Sandhills. After graduating from high school, he worked at a feed mill to send his brother to a one-year technical school. Then Pat worked and gave Mike his first year at Frontier School of the Bible. While at Frontier, Mike met and married his wife, Joan. Next, he taught five years in a technical school in Laramie, Wyoming, before relocating to Kansas City to work in technical teaching and maintenance at Calvary Bible College for nearly 25 years. While there he earned both a Bachelors and Masters in Biblical Studies. He has continued studies to nearly finish an M Div. in Theology. Next came about 10 years as a general contractor.

Mike's goal at CBI is "To help out students interpret the Word that they may apply that Word to their world."
